Naked Body of Dreams

Lethe

The mattress makes waves
to mimic my cerebral sea.
Entropy dissipates every
excited particle of me,
stirs all the unlucid vapors
that sway as they ascend
to the thinnest atmosphere
at the crest of sensation.
In my unguided tour of duty,
drifting vapors condense,
collecting themselves
just prior to their plunge
down the forgetful chutes
of every suspected mirage.

Quivering globules pelt
the puddles that collect
in the crevasses of crumpled
bedsheets, between the
fault lines where I sleep.
My figments are a fountain
that upspray their showers
like delusional clusters
that the gravity of amnesia
drags back to fated collision,
fashioning liquid crowns
that rise up ever so briefly
then clash in their splashes
against my surface tension,
my rapid eye reverie.

About the Poem

This poem emerged from a stream of consciousness I had in which I wanted to give some visual sensation of the shifting, nebulous landscape in which dreams carry and propel us while we sleep.

Publication

This poem is previously unpublished in print. This poem was finished September 19, 2006.
