Naked Body of Dreams

Currency

What shall be the price of his head,
the appraisal of his value proposition?
Absent any substantial appreciation
of his own tangible goods,
what is the poorer man to do?

He must sweeten the proposition,
draw upon deposits in other currency.
Make pride a part of the portfolio as well.
Peculiar, this rate of exchange
whereby a deficit in body and beauty
is instantly made whole by tender surfeit.

One cannot readily bank on which shadows
will serve as surreptitious boardroom,
where the statements of terms, sotto voce,
set down the agreement in principal.
Payment is surrendered for an audit
prior to the first of services rendered.

Behind closed doors,
anxious investments in tactile futures
are traded with fevered consideration.
Votes are cast in the affirmative
until the transaction is a done deal.
